Forgot to mention

October 19, 2016

So I didn't mention this last week, but we had plans to hear from an apostle on Saturday the 15th of this month. Obviously because today is the 19th it already happened and let me just tell you that it was way powerful.

We had the privilege to hear from Elder David A. Bednar from 9-12 Saturday morning and it was just a privilege to hear from such a man with such strong faith. We conducted kind of a question and answer/
discussion kind of ordeal for the whole 3 hours and man I was so spiritually lifted.

I'll share one thing I thought was way interesting I've been thinking about a lot lately:

So right before we were about to finish, he talked about how he felt like the whole 3 hours just flew by and how it didn't nearly feel like 3 hours. Seemed like such a simple thing until he described what he meant by explaining how the time seemed faster than it was. He explained how we are all eternal beings who are living in a world/existence restricted by time. Because we are eternal beings without and end, we aren't used to time and being restricted 24 hours in a day. Those times when we feel like time went way fast is because of how thin the veil was between us and heaven. Because we are eternal beings not used to time, sometimes time flies faster than we think
meaning that we are very close to heaven. This is most common when we are feeling the Spirit very powerfully. time goes ridiculously fast yo! Hard to describe, but yep. I've noticed it a lot on my mission.

Sorry I can't write it the way he said it, and I'm getting too lazy with my emails to actually change it so.... Read what I wrote and just kind of go with it and see if you understand what I meant.

Other than that things are okay over here. Our baptismal date (luan
San (pronounced Ron) the Chinese guy) is starting to recede a little bit off the path. We had a lesson with him where we wanted to tell him how because he hadn't been to sacrament meeting 3 times before the 15th he couldn't get baptized on his assigned date. He asked "what is baptism" and "who is doing that thing?" They taught him and made the date before I came in, so I was way shocked to find out he had no real clue what he was getting into.
After that lesson he has kind of been harder and harder, but we not giving up and am trusting in the Lord to show us what he wants us to do.

Having a great time and am working hard every day. Grateful for this wonderful message and all the things I've learned as a missionary. Truly no greater blessing than giving selfless, devoted service to the Lord for 2 short years. Can't believe I've already finished 2/3 of my mission, but I just have to make the best use of my time.

Alrighty thank you everyone love you all bye bye! :)

Conference was lit!

October 9, 2016

Yep so we get conference here a week later than America and for some
reason waiting an extra week this time was so hard. I was so excited
for it. I think my attitude was key, because I got way more out of it
than I ever have before.

Favorite talk was probably the one by K. Brett Nattress. He talked a
lot about how the greatest joy in life could quite possibly be
watching your own kids gaining a testimony for themselves. Gave the
example of how his mom read the Book of Mormon to him and his siblings
everyday during breakfast. The mom remembered the promise that if she
read every morning she would never lose her kids and it hit me way
hard. I know I'm on a mission right now and still don't have kids, but
I felt like I do need to start preparing to be a good father and
example for the future. I might be getting ahead of myself idk.

Also really enjoyed the talk about joy by Russell M Nelson. Look it
up. Doesn't matter what religion you are, or what you believe. You can
always feel more and more joy in this wonderful life.

I went on splits in this area called Otaru with a younger Japanese
missionary this week and for the first time in 15 months..... I saw
the ocean! I was so excited because I haven't been anywhere near the
coast my whole mission. Otaru is famous for its massive hills and we
were walking the massive hill when he told me to turn around and look.
Man I got more excited than a 5 year old waking up on Christmas Day.

We are just working hard here and haven't really had anything amazing
happen that I feel is worth writing about.
My buddy josh said my emails are boring, but it's all good. I think
I'm getting lazier and lazier every week, so...

Hope everyone has a great week!

[Had a zone training meeting and these are the 3 newest missionaries to our zone. Sorry haven't been taking any pictures at all lately]

one more down

October 2, 2016

こんにちは (translator: hello)

Hello everyone. It seems that another week has just flown right by and
I can't remember anything that happened again.

We did have a mission leader's conference again this week and got
training from the assistants and our mission president so that was an
awesome spiritual boost.

It was honestly just another week of normal missionary work

We have one investigator named luan San who is from China. I can't
remember if I wrote about him yet or not, but he is very close to
baptism. We just need to help him finish the lessons, understand the
importance of church, and get him to actually come to church. I think
if he comes more often he can definitely get baptized and that would
be an amazing experience to watch him take steps closer to Christ.

My bike that I got from a way old missionary is kind of falling apart,
so I'm using this wicked fast cross bike my companion got from an
Eikaiwa (English class) student. We are just cooking now and it feels
good to not be forcing the bike and still going like a snail. It's all
good though I only have to bike until it starts snowing again
(probably the end of this month, beginning of next) and then after it
stops snowing to when I go home (probably April-July ish)
So.... I should be fine with the little time I have left with a bike.

Other than that..... Hmmm I sent my family a package today by boat
that should take 2-3 months, so enjoy that

Can't believe I only have 9 months left... Jeez time is flying and I
need to do better.

Anyway, pretty typically missionary email, so if you want something
juicy read my friend Dallin smith's emails. He's the best

Ok have an awesome week!

敬具 (sincerely yours)
